Acting Shakespeare
Adult Acting Class for Non-Professionals

“He was not of an age, but for all time” – so wrote Ben Jonson of Shakespeare in 1623 in what would become the most famous line about the world’s most famous playwright. But have you ever wondered why Shakespeare  is “for all time”? Have you ever wondered why – or even if – Shakespeare is even all that great? For so many of us, Shakespeare has always been a part of our culture and vocabulary; when we say “genius,” names like Shakespeare, Mozart, and Einstein spring readily to our thoughts and words, but few of us know, first-hand, why this is.

If you’ve ever wanted to answer these questions for yourself, then the CSC’s “Shakespeare Seminar” is for you. Join CSC’s Education Director, Dr. Kevin Costa, who will lead a four-week course on four of Shakespeare's most scintillating plays: Much Ado About Nothing, Henry IV, Julius Caesar, and The Winter’s Tale. Costa will draw on his background as an actor, director, and academic to explore with you the riches and joys of Shakespeare’s language. And don’t worry – you won’t be in your seats for three hours. Classes will be a mix of energetic discussion, scene work (no, you don’t have to be an actor!), and perhaps the odd visit or two from some company actors!

So come meet the Shakespeare you’ve heard so much about!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kevin Costa at kcosta380@gmail.com.
