April 27 – May 26, 2019
Chesapeake Shakespeare Company will offer 15-minute Anne Frank VR tours before Saturday and Sunday performances of The Diary of Anne Frank April 27, 2019 through May 26, 2019. Reservations for the Anne Frank VR tour will be offered in 15-minute “timed-ticket” seatings, taking place in the theater’s PNC Family Room. Per Oculus health and safety guidelines, all VR users must be age 13 or older. Seatings will be offered beginning 1 hour before showtime, by reservation. The virtual reality viewing reservation is separate from your show ticket. The final seating in each session will end promptly at 20 minutes before showtime.
The award-winning Anne Frank House VR produced and developed by Force Field and available with Oculus Inc. offers a tour of the “Secret Annex” recreated with and authorized by the museum. Oculus Inc. has donated eight VR headset systems to the Jewish Museum of Maryland, which in turn has granted permission for Chesapeake Shakespeare Company to share the virtual reality experience in the theater during the run of the play, The Diary of Anne Frank. This gift, made possible through collaboration with the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect USA, in New York, will allow Baltimoreans who could not otherwise visit Amsterdam to have a chance to “walk” inside the Anne Frank House. This collaboration is a wonderful example of Baltimore institutions working together to enhance the cultural resources available to local citizens.
Some health and safety restrictions will apply, per Oculus Inc., including a warning for anyone with vertigo and certain other health conditions and for pregnant patrons, among others. Restrictions also require that viewers stay seated while using the equipment. All adults will be asked to sign a waiver. Please note: There is a limited amount of seating to each viewing, so you must make a reservation. Because of the demand for viewings, only one 15-minute appointment per person will be available and missed appointments likely cannot be rescheduled.
