The Winter’s Tale is an exciting and compelling fantasy about the exquisite power of love and nature to heal,  renew and refresh.  This epic medieval tale follows a royal family torn apart by a false accusation of infidelity.   To mend all that he has broken, the irrational king must repent. A prophecy must be fulfilled, a foundling must blossom into a princess, and a statue of the wronged queen must reveal its magic.  And yes, someone must exit pursued by a bear. (Oh, what a bear it is!) The first half of the play is the metaphorical dark winter of the king’s tragic error.  In the second half, comedy takes over and springtime yields fresh chances to find love and joy. Ultimately, says Director Isabelle Anderson, The Winter’s Tale is a beautiful reflection on the perpetual cycles of love, nature, hope — and the triumph of good over evil.  Merry or sad shall it be?  Both, she says. And isn’t that like life?
