Titus Andronicus

“The Lamentable Tragedy of Titus Andronicus” is a gripping tale of horror and Shakespeare’s bloodiest thriller. The story pits a conquering Roman general against the cunning Queen he has captured.  As their lust for revenge escalates, no one is safe. In this wickedly exciting play, Shakespeare’s gaze on man’s capacity for cruelty is unrelenting. For many years, theaters would not perform Titus Andronicus. Today, we can debate whether its graphic violence and sensational plot feel ripped from the headlines or straight out of HBO and video games, and we can consider how a 420-year-old play inspires a namesake punk-indie rock band.  CSC’s Founding Artistic Director Ian Gallanar will give Titus Andronicus an edgy, contemporary setting influenced by the surreal films of David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino, with original music by Chip Salerno, and a rock band on stage. (Titus photo by Teresa Castracane.)
