A Shakespeare-lover’s thrill: the Falstaff plays!
Together, Henry IV, Part I and Part II tell the spellbinding chronicle of the roguish Prince Hal, who is pulled between the magnetic, funny, and dissolute Falstaff and his dutiful and despondent father, King Henry. Rarely performed, individually or together, these brilliant plays are a bounty of drama and comedy for any Shakespeare-lover.
Henry IV, Part II
By William Shakespeare
March 15 – April 7, 2019
“Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.”
As King Henry IV nears death, warring among the nobility continues: The defeated rebels regroup, aligned now with Northumberland against the crown. Prince Hal’s friend, the aging tavern-brawler Falstaff, is up to his unscrupulous tricks and scene-stealing humor. Hal avoids responsibility for a time but cannot put off the inevitable as his father fades. Through Hal’s journey to the throne, Shakespeare invites us to explore themes of family, duty, leadership, succession, and legacy.
