Technical Supervisor
Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is seeking a Technical Supervisor for our Shakespeare Beyond Tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Key dates:
First outdoor rehearsal: June 17
Tech Begins: June 24
Opening: July 1
Closing: August 3.
Tour dates and locations are still being set. We currently expect about 10 performances in 10 locations in and around Baltimore (including Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Baltimore Counties). Each performance will have a rain date built in to the schedule. Current tour schedule will be provided when scheduling an interview.
Duties include: Set up and strike of the performance site, including tour truck that transforms into the stage; lighting trusses; sound system; control and backstage tents. The technical supervisor will supervise a team of 8 actor-technicians and work alongside the production manager, truck designer, two stage managers, and audio engineer to create the site.
We are particularly looking for a person with expertise in lighting and sound, touring, and/or training less experienced technicians.
Pay is $700/week for 7 weeks

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is seeking a Props Designer for our Shakespeare Beyond Tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Beginning June 17, all rehearsals and performances will be outdoors.
Duties include: sourcing, creating, and pulling props for the production; maintaining props through the run; replacing consumable props; providing rehearsal props; and regular communication between the director, stage manager, and production manager.
Pay is $1000, payable half at opening and half at closing of the production

Chesapeake Shakespeare Company is hiring a Costume Designer for our Shakespeare Beyond Tour of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Tour dates and locations are still being set. We currently expect about 10 performances in 10 locations in and around Baltimore (including Anne Arundel, Montgomery, and Baltimore Counties). Each performance will have a rain date built in to the schedule. Current tour schedule will be provided when scheduling an interview.
Beginning June 17, all rehearsals and performances will be outdoors.
Duties include: Provide design sketches to the director and production manager; managing materials budget; engaging and hiring stitchers with the provided budget; ensure the timely creation or acquisition of all costumes.
This production is a partial remount of last year’s tour. Only one actor is returning in the same role, but we do still own the costumes from last year. Late 1960s aesthetic. Bottom’s mask for his transformation is already in stock. Fairy masks will need to be made.
Compensation is $2000, payable on opening night.

PERFORMANCE USHER: This is the most common volunteer option. Help us welcome in our patrons to both our Downtown Theatre on Calvert Street, and our summer outdoor venue at the PFI Historic Park in Ellicott City, MD. Duties for the downtown location include but are not limited to scanning tickets, checking vaccination or health records, showing patrons to their seats, handing out parking vouchers and wine slips, and greeting our patrons as they arrive. At our outdoor location, we also ask volunteers that are able to help set up and take down folding chairs for each performance.
EDUCATION EVENTS: Assist the education team as they usher in Baltimore area students for our 10am student matinees. These events are not ticketed and are set up in accordance with school curriculum to introduce young audiences to the magic of Shakespeare. Performances are often only 90 minutes and include a Q & A session following. Other Educational opportunities may include events located in our Studio space around the corner from the theatre on Redwood street. This space plays host to the Black Classical Acting Ensemble, CSC Summer Camps and Classes as well as our Veterans programming.
GENERAL OFFICE HELP: A few times a season we may need help folding, stuffing, and sealing envelopes for large business or development mailings. This is a fun way to get to know the staff and help us grow our reach in Baltimore and beyond!
DISTRIBUTING POSTERS/FLYERS: Occasionally we will want to place a poster of our show or stacks of postcards within various neighborhoods to reach an audience that may not know us yet. Often, you might live or work in that area and can ask local businesses to place these posters or postcards in an approved location where patrons can access them. This opportunity is arranged with the consent of our marketing department to targeted neighborhoods decided on a show-by-show basis.
